Heuristics - Systematic Listing

Make a List

In using this heuristic, we generate "guessed" solutions in a systematic or organised list form a suitable initial "guess". This list can be, answer is often quite often presented in the form of a table though it is not always necessary to do so.

The choice of the initial guess and the decision on how the next guess is made are the keys to finding the solution. While some pupils can always use a convenient number say "1" as the initial guess, the heuristic " Guess & Check" (which they were taught earlier in P3) is usually used to identify a more suitable initial guess so as to shorten the list and thus expedite the solution process.

Here are the answers of the Revision Quiz we did earlier in class. Your partners should have checked that your answers or corrections for the Q1 - Q7 are completed.

ALl the best for your Math Topical Test tomorrow.

4A, let's Endeavour  All the Way!

Following are the solution to the 3 Word Problems...

NOTE to 4A pupils

**Q8 is a STRETCH Heurisic question on listing which I would like to expose you to.
It may look difficult at first glance as the info is given with regards to both chickens and cages.

Most of you are able to handle the first set of data. You managed to +1 from your listing of 7 multiples as there is 1 chicken leftover.

Now for 2nd part : If we put the chickens in groups of 9, we will have 1 cage empty
1 cage empty means  ---> 9 chicken less

I have presented the answers as follows. Hope it helps....

 Solution to Q9 :

Solution to Q10:
**Since we know the range is from 31 to 39, we need not start the list from the beginning .
