Stretch Worksheet on Area & Perimeter

Hi 4A,

This post is for Question 1 of our Area & Perimeter Stretch Worksheet.

Method 1 solution :

To visualise by removing  the concrete path and rejoining the remaining park.

Hence the length became : 30m - 3m = 27m

Area  covered by grass =  Length x Breadth
                                      =   30 m x 27 m
                                        = 540 square metres

Some of you came up with the alternative solution of finding the area of the concrete path.

Method 2 solution:

 Area of concrete path = 3 x 20 = 60 square metres
Area of Park = 30 x 20 = 600 square metres
Area covered by grass = 600 - 60 = 540 square metres

For this solution , we need to find the area of 2 parallelograms first ( which is also Length x breadth)

Watch this video to help you visualise.

30/9 Math Homework

To complete Math WB Chap 14 (Tables & Line Graphs) Pg 151 - 156

I have returned the following today for your parent's signature:

1) EDP WS : Chapter 15 Time WS 2
2) EDP WS : Chapter 13 Area & Perimeter WS 1 and WS 2

For finding perimeter of a composite figure, do use the highlighting method for finding sides of same length .

This helps you to add up less sets of numbers and hence reduce the possibility of calculation errors.

Adding up all the sides of a composite figure to find perimeter.

Adding up all the 8 sides separately  may cause calculation errors .

 Examples of highlighting method:

Using highlighting method , we only need to add 4 sets of numbers to find teh perimeter compared to 8 sets of numbers.
Using highlighting method, we added up 4 sets of numbers to find the perimeter compared to adding 8 sets of numbers .

Another example: We added up 6 sets of numbers ( 2 greens sides, 2 yellow sides and 2 purple sides ) instead of adding up 8 sides.
